Thanks to Ken Foley for finding this in Ian Bott’s excellent book Britain in Old Photographs: Wednesbury Memories (reproduced without permission, but gratefully acknowledged here).
The recipient is Geoff Wood. Half-hidden behind Geoff’s shoulder is Howard Bailey. The small lad to the right is John Pye (who still attends reunions with Ken Foley). Above John’s head is Bernard Aucott.

The Express and Star, Thursday July 20, 1972, reported:

Outstanding junior hurdler, 18 year-old Peter Kelly, has been invited by the British Amateur Athletic Board to accompany the Great Britain team to the Olympic Games.

Kelly, whose home is at Wednesbury, attends Madeley College [but previously, WBHS] and is a member of the Wolverhampton and Bilston club.

He has already represented Great Britain at junior level and recently captained the team who met Sweden.

Kelly’s selection – the board are taking only two youngsters to Munich – is a reward for his outstanding performances both at junior and senior level. He will not compete at Munich but the board consider he will gain valuable experience from the trip.

His best time for the 110 metres hurdles is 14.1 secs and for the 400 metres hurdles, 53.1.

He will stay at the international youth camp being held in association with the Games and will accompany the Great Britain team at  the opening and closing ceremonies and any social functions.
